Book-buying excuse number four thousand eight hundred and two
Tomorrow, 23rd April, is International Book & Copyright Day according to Unesco. The copyright bit seems like a dubious add-on to me, but I like the book bit so I'll focus on that.
St George is the patron saint of Catalunya as well as England and there is a Catalan tradition of exchanging red roses and books to mark the date. Which also happens to be the day that Shakespeare and Cervantes died.
I'm not the slightest bit interested in patron saints, but, well, if it's a Unesco-recognised day, and if it's about remembering great writers, and, y'know, the Catalans do it, why not eh?

this isn't related to your blog, this is to say - what a load of you know what, the orange prize is. I ADORE disobedience, my god, i was there, with every word, every emotion, i have recommended it to everyone i meet and i am even writing more poetry because of it, you have a gift, don't let the stoooopid orange prize opinions of zadie and ali smith get to you! I've real all of sarah waters books and affinity and tipping were much better than any of the accolade that fingersmith got or night watch might get! Here's hoping you are writing another book very soon, because (no pressure) I will be snapping it up. I think whatever commentary you wish to make using your power for poetic description weaved into a story, such as you did, is an amazing talent. To write with such a light touch, yet penetrate so deeply is not something to be dampened by any prize giving body, made up load of clap trap. Yours with a genuine passion for writing, truly Kelly
